Where: Lavalla College, St. Paul's Campus Champagnat Centre Grey St., Monday evenings, time for men’s program session 7.45 – 9.15pm Generally it is expected that all athletes arrive earlier than 7.45 & have done their pre warm up, e.g. run & stretch or a theraband session & are ready to get straight into drills straight away at 7.45. When doing your warm up please try to keep out of the way of those in the prior training session.
For: All male players are welcome to attend to improve their volleyball but must understand that this session is designed to prepare players to play competitive representative volleyball. Locally based LV squad players who are currently training with LV Hawks & Eastside Hawks will be attending when possible.
Why & What: The first two sessions Mondays 17th & 24th of March will serve as a trial for any players to be added to the LV D1 squad or be recommended for the LV D2 squad for either VVL (held at State Volleyball Centre Dandenong on Saturdays) &/or this year’s Country Championships, CC’14 - June 7, 8, 9 in Leongatha.
Players not selected for either of these two squads would still be welcome to continue training and if they wish participate in CC’14 by forming a LV Community Competition team that may play under the banner of LV Moe CVC or LV Morwell CVC, etc that will be facilitated.
Coaches: A range of experienced coaches will be available, depending on work commitments; however LV D1 coach Jacob Gruis will attend the first two sessions & approximately every second session. GSA coach Anthony Young has accepted responsibility for the overall conduct of the training sessions and will be one of the LV D2 coaches, supported by Greg Wiggins & other LV legends! We currently stringing a third net up between the two main courts, in theory giving us 2 & ½ courts to use. This is something you need to be aware of during warm up with the women’s squads needing both areas to train on as there are many players. The main issue is balls rolling into each other’s court space, something to be vigilant on.
Cost: The cost of the training sessions are $3.00 per night per person payable in an upfront charge of $30 for the next 10 weeks; each person please place the cash in an envelope with the name on it required by start of session 2, March 24 at the latest.
We expect good numbers of Div 1 & Div 2 men in the anticipation of productive training sessions leading up to this year’s country champs where we hope to enter at least 3 teams.
